Trip Informations
Spend 12 illuminating days discovering the legends of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia within the Caucasus region. Start with fiery Baku and its fascinating mixture of old and new by the Caspian Sea. Explore Absheron peninsula with its Fire Temple and Yanardag Burning Mountain. Journey along the Caucasus Mountains and stop in atmospheric Sheki to see its stained-glass Palace of the Sheki Khans, before reaching Tbilisi. Enjoy warm Georgian hospitality with a homecooked meal and wine tasting, and learn how to make the Armenian Lavash. Admire the remarkable Geghard Monastery and Garni Temple and take part in preserving the traditional art of rug weaving in Yerevan. This adventure promises fascinating cultural insights, sweeping scenery and unforgettable local encounters.
Why you’ll love this trip
Be surprised by the striking dichotomy of Baku’s ancient walled city and bold modern skyline, then head to Absheron to discover its ancient tradition of fire worship.
Experience the magnificent mountain scenery of the Georgian Military Highway, then visit the 14th-century Gergeti Trinity Church in the heart of the Caucasus Mountains (and, if the weather’s right, catch a glimpse of Mt Kazbegi).
Experience warm Georgian hospitality as you visit a traditional wine producer where the ancient, UNESCO-listed qvevri method is still used, and learn how to make khinkali (Georgian dumplings) in a family-run hotel.
Walk through history, from Garni Temple, the only surviving Greco-Roman-style pagan temple in Armenia, to Geghard monastery, representative of Armenia’s Christian medieval past.
Take part in the conservation effort of a local NGO dedicated to preserving Armenian art through a rug-weaving workshop and learn about Armenia Lavish baking using century old method.
Is this trip right for you?
There are some long travel days on this adventure. This is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers and enjoy the passing scenery. Some activities, including the trip to the high Caucasus around Kazbegi, are dependent on weather and road conditions. Your leader will keep you up to date on any necessary itinerary changes due to local conditions.
