Why you’ll love this trip
Explore Chitwan National Park on a Short Break Adventure from Kathmandu – once home to a royal hunting reserve, this park is now widely recognised as one of the best national parks in Asia.
Go walking, canoeing and driving on a safari through the lush landscapes of Chitwan National Park, looking out for wildlife like crocodiles, pythons and deer.
Take a boat along the Rapti River, which shelters about a quarter of the world's remaining gharial population.
Jump on a jeep safari and enjoy a guided bird-watching experience.
Spend some time in a local Tharu village, visiting the museum and learning about local life.
Is this trip right for you?
On Short Breaks, you maintain a good level of independence and freedom, with the added bonus of having the details sorted out for you. You’ll have lots of free time and you won’t be accompanied by a Trip Leader. This means that all included activities and tours will be run by different local Tuuur partners, and these may operate independently from each other. The included activities and transfers will operate on a join-in basis, which means that you could have your Adventure all to yourself, or others may join you along the way. If you would prefer to travel in a group with a dedicated Trip Leader, just get in touch with your booking agent and they will take you through some alternatives.
While there will be opportunities to spot many different kinds of wildlife, sightings cannot be guaranteed as this is a national park where animals are free to roam rather than a zoo or wildlife park.
You will see tour operators offering elephant riding activities and many tourists taking part in them during your time in Chitwan. Tuuur Travel has a strong elephant welfare policy and as such we discourage travellers from riding elephants in Nepal or anywhere around the world. See the Responsible Travel section for more information.

This extension trip was a great way to visit Chitwan National Park by ourselves. The activities were planned everyday by the hotel and we had a guide who accompanied us. Some of the activities were with other people but mostly alone with our guide which was great. I particularly enjoyed the local village as well as seeing the animals in the park. So many rhinos, elephants, a sloth bear, peacocks, monkeys, deer and many, many birds.

Great to see the rhino and wild elephants. Be aware of the very long and challenging car journey and weather conditions which can impact activities as well as travel. Spent more time learning about Tharu culture than the wildlife.

I enjoyed my time on this tour, it was great to visit the national park. However, it should be noted that activities can be spread out so be prepared for a lot of free time at the hotel.
