Trip Informations
Experience a breadth of cultures, flavours and landscapes on this 19-day trip through China. Marvel at iconic attractions like the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors and the 71-m-tall World Heritage-listed Leshan Giant Buddha. Then, uncover the quieter side of the country with a cruise along the Yangtze River, a bike ride through the picturesque limestone karst landscapes of Yangshuo and a stay in a Buddhist monastery tucked into the mountains of Emei Shan. Dine on some of China’s most renowned (and spiciest) cuisine in Chengdu and then visit a research base dedicated to conserving giant pandas. Discover a land of epic history, lush countryside and dramatic vistas with a group of like-minded travellers and a knowledgeable local leader by your side.
Why you’ll love this trip
Take in the iconic scenery of the Yangtze River as you sail through the dramatic Three Gorges on a three-day cruise.
Hike through the misty forests of Emei Shan for a stay in a monastery, where you’ll wake to the sound of drums and prayers in the morning Buddhist ritual.
Get up close to giant pandas in Chengdu and learn about the work being done to preserve this ancient species.
Cycle through the Chinese countryside against backdrops that look straight out of a painting, like the striking limestone karsts of Yangshuo.
Zip through the country from north to south on its efficient high-speed rail network and experience world-class wonders, from the ancient Great Wall and Terracotta Warriors to the skyline and night markets of Hong Kong.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip is a true journey in the sense that we are covering huge distances and visiting many destinations along the way. Be prepared for long days of travel in between days packed with sightseeing.
With walks on the Great Wall and up Emei Shan (both of which have many steps!), you'll need a good level of fitness to get the most out of these activities. However, you'll have plenty of more relaxing days too, such as on the Yangtze River cruise or in the town of Yangshuo.
There is a variety of accommodation on this trip including hotels, guesthouses, monasteries and riverboats. They might not always be as comfortable as home, but each accommodation site will give you a different perspective on China.
While we finish in Hong Kong, due to our late afternoon arrival we do not include much free time or many activities here. We highly recommend staying a few extra days post-trip to make the most of this exciting city.
China’s world-class sites and experiences draw large numbers of local and international travellers. We recommend a little patience and comfortable shoes as you may need to wait before entering the more popular locations on your itinerary.
This is trip spends time at altitude; you should refer to the Medical & Health Information for this trip to understand the risks.

An incredible trip made unforgettable by our guide Feng. He was knowledgeable, funny, and incredibly caring, always ensuring our safety and comfort while sharing rich cultural insights. The experiences he organised, including local family visits and tea picking, were highlights. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide.

We had an amazing trip and enjoyed every minute of it. It isnt for the faint hearted - we covered a lot of miles and the trip was exhausting. We saw a lot and our experience of China was interesting informative and fun. I would recommend this trip to anyone who would like to see more of China but is unsure of how to negotiate the language and culture without support.

This tour is amazing if you want to go in-depth on China! The itinerary really lets you see so many different regions of China, and yet you barely touch the surface. Sunny was a great tour leader who was so knowledgeable on Chinese history and was always more than happy to help out. China completely exceeded my expectations, the people are so friendly and the food is incredible!
