The Five Stans trip did not disappoint. It was a journey across such diverse landscapes. From very cosmopolitan cities and remote mountain villages. Each country offered such different and unique experiences. I particularly enjoyed the mountainous terrain of Tajikistan and the warmth of the people, not to mention the best Plov eaten at our family hosted dinner in Khujand. But how can you single out only 1 Stan. All five hold such unforgettable moments. The Architectual wanders in Uzbekistan, breathtaking natural beauty of Krygyzstan, and then Ashgabat both mysterious and surreal. This is a trip that will live with me for the rest of my life and hopefully can return someday.

If you're thinking of booking this trip, stop thinking, and just book it. I cannot recommend this trip highly enough. From the cities, mountains, lakes and everything in between you won't be disappointed. Every country has so much to offer and so many highlights that you have to go to appreciate them all. From the people, the places, and the trip leader, it's definitely a trip of a lifetime and I certainly won't forget it

'Where are tge Stans?' Was a common question that I received when I mentioned my trip to friends. This region should be on everybody's travel radar, as it is still largely an undiscovered gem. Where else can you pick fresh apricots, cherries or mulberries from the trees as you walk through a local park, be greeted by friendly children on the street with a cheery 'Welcome to my country!', or learn how to construct a yurt step by step in practice? The accommodation was also varied and special. The homestay in mountain villages let us experience life at a slower pace, while staying in the 'quaint' Soviet-era Uzbekistan Hotel (for tourists travelling years ago) was like living in a time warp. Truly immersive experiences. The people, the food, the melting pot of cultures - and many other factors made this a truly special experience.

What an amazing trip - wow moments a plenty. Spectacular Ms’ - (mosques, madrasahs and mausoleums!!!); a great balance of ancient and 20thC history; extraordinary landscapes (deserts, 3000m mountain passes, snow, lakes, animals); friendly locals and some delicious food cooked by local families. Trip of a lifetime.

I cannot recommend this trip enough - what an amazing three weeks! The trip provides diverse experiences: ancient and contemporary cities, natural beauty, and truly spectacular food. Darvaza by night and Lake Kaindy are real highlights. A huge thank you to our leaders Svetlana and Rejep - they were brilliant!

The trip to the 5 Stans was excellent. Communication with the company was prompt and the tour guides were very good. This was my first tour with a group and I think the destination and being a small group of travellers - it worked well. Certainly would recommend Intrepid as a tour operator.
