Trip Informations
Tropical cloud forests alive with jungle melodies and native wildlife, vast freshwater lakes and active volcanoes, historic cities and shared moments with locals – this pocket of Central America is a slice of paradise. On this 16-day Central American journey, take in all the must-visit spots like Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. You’ll spot sloths among the canopy of Monteverde, see how indigo dying works in Suchitoto, explore the World Heritage-listed ruins of Copan and stand in the shadow of mighty Arenal Volcano. This adventure is perfect for those who like to experience a destination 'la forma natural' (the natural way).
Why you’ll love this trip
verified
Explore varied landscapes of lush Central America. If you’re thinking active volcanoes, historic cities and emerald jungles – this trip has you covered.
verified
Wind your way through the otherworldly ruins of Copan in Honduras, famous for the numerous elaborate stelae. These Maya ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage site and a perfect spot for some great pics.
verified
Watch an indigo-dying demonstration in Suchitoto (the best place to produce indigo in the world!) at a local enterprise that supports working mothers in the community.
verified
Join a local guide (with specialist spotting equipment) on a walk through the steamy cloud forests of Monteverde, searching the lush canopies for the unique Central American wildlife that call this natural haven home.
verified
Try out your Nicaragua sign language skills when you order breakfast at an atmospheric cafe housed in a historic building managed and staffed by members of the local deaf community.
Is this trip right for you?
verified
Compared to the other countries you visit on this trip, Costa Rica can sometimes seem expensive. Expect to pay more than you would in other Central American countries for a lot of things.
verified
You cover heaps of ground on this trip, with several border crossings and long travel days. This trip includes time spent travelling in a private vehicle with your group. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. Although this can be tiresome, it’s all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers.
verified
Central America is generally hot and humid year-round. At nighttime and in locations at higher elevations it can get chilly. Protect yourself from the sun, bring light clothing you can layer and a waterproof jacket, and stay hydrated. Air conditioning may not always be available in your rooms. Occasionally, properties may require an additional charge for air conditioning.
verified
This trip can involve a lot of walking. Please ensure you bring sturdy walking shoes and comfortable clothes. To make the most of the trip, it's best if you have at least a moderate level of fitness.
verified
There will be times when you have to walk with your luggage, and for this reason, it is recommended you pack light and use a backpack or something easy to carry.
verified
If you are traveling with a UK passport, a visa is now required to enter Honduras. Please ensure you check the Important Notes and Essential Trip Information for more details.

This trip was an incredible experience from start to finish. I learned so much along the way, enjoyed every moment, and got to take part in a wide variety of activities that kept things exciting and engaging. Traveling with such a lovely group of people made it even more special, and having Walter as our tour leader truly elevated the whole journey. His energy, knowledge, and care for the group made this trip unforgettable.

Our tour guide Maya was fabulous, Intrepid is so very fortunate to have her in their employ. We loved our adventures, felt well informed and safe throughout the whole trip, been telling everyone about it, even traded contacts on the plane with fellow passengers so they can find out the particulars of this trip for themselves in the future! Our favorite place was Nicaragua, the sand boarding down the volcano is bucket list check off for sure!

Having travelled with Intrepid before, my sister and I made the choice to use them again for our Central America tour. They not only provide a fantastic guided itinerary, but we really like the fact that the money stays within local economies and tour guides are from the local area with excellent local knowledge. We always feel welcomed and accommodated despite our age and find ourselves making friends from all over the world on Intrepid tours who we still stay in touch with. Intrepid are our go-to tour provider and would thoroughly recommend them for any tour

Tour was good, but tour leader Maya made the Central America Explorer tour exceptional. She handled visa issues calmly and professionally, always responding immediately with patience and care. Her organisation and local knowledge made complex travel seamless. Reliable and always thinking ahead, she ensured everything ran smoothly. Maya truly represents why Intrepid has such a strong reputation.

We throughly enjoyed our journey through Central America with a small group. We learnt so much about the cultures and history, ate some great food and met some lovely people including Guillarmo our guide, our seven fellow travellers, all the local guides and the many locals we interacted with. We had so many wonderful experiences. It was unforgettable.

My Central America trip was an incredible experience and one of the best holidays I’ve had. Everything was well organized, and the atmosphere felt more like traveling with friends than being on a tour. Our guide, Juan was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the journey truly memorable from start to finish.

This tour is my very first one, I’ve never done a long trip before. I decided to book with intrepid and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Everything was so organized and I’ve had so much fun on this trip. I would recommend intrepid to anyone who wants to actually TRAVEL , learn about the destinations you’re going to, and of course have fun!
