Is this trip right for you?
This is an active and varied tour with a number of activities to get your pulse going. While specific prior training isn't necessary, some travellers have found parts of the itinerary quite challenging and a reasonably high level of fitness is needed to get the best out of the experience.
You'll be spending a night with a local family on this trip. While the accommodation is shared and basic, this is a great opportunity to connect with the local people (and enjoy delicious home-cooked meals!). Read more about the experience here: https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/cambodia-homestay-experience https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/cambodia-homestay-experience (https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/cambodia-homestay-experience)
This trip involves some long days of driving, so some patience will go a long way towards your enjoyment here.
At times our accommodation may not have continuous hot water. Most travellers don’t find this a problem and are often keen to cool down from the heat with a refreshing cold shower!
Cambodia can get very hot, so days cycling, or even temple hopping can take it out of you quickly. We recommend packing adequate clothing, sun protection, and that you always have lots of water with you
Part of travelling with Tuuur means respecting local cultures and sensibilities. That way you get the most out of your interactions with local people and environments. You will visit a number of temples on this trip, and this requires a level of modesty. Be sure to bring clothes that cover the arms and pants or skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
Itinerary
Get your Khmer share of active adventures along the Mekong River
Cambodia’s incredible beauty, fantastic food and unique culture are even better when combined with some outdoor adventures. Get active on this eight-day exploration of the country’s verdant countryside, Khmer history and welcoming communities – hiking, biking and kayaking through its heart. Explore Phnom Penh and take to the Mekong for an island homestay, get up close with Irrawaddy dolphins and explore spectacular flooded forests, then discover the ancient temple ruins of the incredible Angkor complex by foot and mountain bike – this is one of the most important archaeological sites in Cambodia and of course, a UNESCO World Heritage site! From Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, you’ll see Cambodia in all its natural glory.

Fabulous trip with a good balance of physical activities, culture and local community interaction. You get to experience both the hustle and bustle of city life and explore remote areas of the country learning about village life. The island homestay is a highlight with the opportunity to contribute to the local community.

A great active trip to see Cambodian life and nature outside the big tourist centres. Our guide (Bo) was excellent and everything was very well organised and safe. Good value - accommodation comfortable, but not luxurious. Recommend spending extra days at start and finish to appreciate Phnom Penh and Angkor area more fully.

Our journey through Cambodia with Intrepid was a lot of fun. Cycling through Phnom Penh gave us a unique perspective on the city’s vibrant streets. We loved discovering how locals live in a village by staying with a family host and learning about their traditions and eating their home cooked meal - this added so much depth and authenticity to the experience. We hiked through the jungle and repelling leeches at the same time and bike-hopping through the world-famous Angkor complex was truly unforgettable. Every day and every activity was seamlessly organised by our experienced and fun tour leader, Bo. The transport throughout was comfortable and reliable, making the journey even more enjoyable. I traveled with a group of friends, and together we found the trip to be the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. I would wholeheartedly recommend Intrepid Tours to anyone wanting to explore Cambodia.

Super small group trip including behind the scenes experiences. Highlight kayaking in the Mekong, biking in the jungle paths and staying on an island home stay. Worth staying on a day or so at the beginning and end of the trip to see more. Great tour leader.
