Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Get a load of Victoria Falls, an amazing thundering spectacle.
Go wildlife-spotting along the river at Chobe National Park, home of the world's highest concentration of African elephants
Enjoy some truly unique accommodation in Elephant Sands. Greet elephants as they come to drink from the pool!

Support local conservation by visiting the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, the only place left in Botswana where both black and white rhinos reside
Is this trip right for you?
This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, setting up your own tent with some long travelling days. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. There will be some early starts and long travelling days.  It's as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page: https://www.tuuur.com/au/africa/overland https://www.tuuur.com/au/africa/overland (https://www.tuuur.com/au/africa/overland)
Camping out in the Okavango wilderness means digging a bush toilet and going without a shower. For most travellers this is a small price to pay for such a gorgeous remote island location. It’s all part of the adventure.
The going can be slow over the long distances and often bumpy roads. A little bit of patience will go a long way towards your enjoyment of this beautiful land. There are some long travelling days.
This is a participatory camping trip, so team spirit is key. You and your family will be helping out with camp setup, food preparation and cleaning.
Itinerary
Travel to South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe and see some of the world’s greatest waterfalls and wildlife
Embark on an action-packed, teen-friendly adventure in south-east Africa. See the thundering spectacle of Victoria Falls, say hello to some new friends at the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, explore the far-out Okavango Delta by traditional canoe and watch elephants drink from the Chobe River. Pack plenty of spare camera batteries, because this snap-happy trip, brimming with exciting animal encounters and landscapes like you’ve never seen, is one for the photo album.

This was our 3rd Intrepid trip with our daughters and it did not disappoint. It is camping but meant we could get up close and personal to all that Botswana has to offer. We saw all of the big 5, by way of boat, 4x4, mokoro (canoe) and on foot. We learnt so much about Botswana, and had too many "wow" and "pinch me" moments to count. Our crew took great care of us, our cook Riccardo not only ensured we were very well fed, but was king of the kids. We travelled with wonderful families who we now call friends.

I can't recommend this trip enough. You will see amazing things, incredible animals, and hopefully make as great friends and eat as well as we did. It's connected us as a family and we are planning our next adventure. After not camping for 20 years it was so easy and so much fun. Just do it!

I cannot recommend this trip more highly, expecially if it is taken with the leader, driver and cook we were privileged to have travelling with us. They looked after us splendidly. The itinerary was exceptional, the friendliness and participation of the group impressive. I will never forget flying over the Okavango Delta - an experience of a lifetime.

If you are considering taking your kids to see the world then consider an Intrepid tour. The employees and locations were so good and the fellow travelers were a joy to befriend. My mother enjoyed her first international trip and watching all the grandchildren experience new sites.

We would highly recommend this trip for families with teenagers. Our two boys (aged 11 and 13) have made friends for life. Botswana is a beautiful, happy and safe country. The itinerary is well planned to take in a lot of wildlife viewing in natural habitats. At no point do you feel that you're in a safari park, which can be the case with some reserves. Great campsites, often with a swimming pool. Highlights: Okavango Delta and Elephant Sands.
