Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Walk along the scenic canopy walkway at Poring Hot Springs, followed by a refreshing dip in the natural waters. Then, spend the night at a tea plantation.
Stay among the birds and beasts of the jungle, right next to an oxbow lake, at Kinabatangan Eco Camp and fall asleep to the sounds of cicadas.
Visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and, if you're lucky, watch baby orangutans learn to swing in a special enclosure.
Cruise along Kinabatangan River at sunset, looking out for macaques, wild orangutan and proboscis monkeys.
Watch protected turtle hatchlings scatter across the beach to the water under the cover of night – this is a special opportunity to see baby turtles in their natural habitat, but make sure you listen to your guides as this is a sensitive and fragile area!
Is this trip right for you?
There's a wide range of accommodation on this trip, from hotels and guesthouses to jungle camps. Some may be a little more basic than your standard Tuuur hotel, but their unique location and close proximity to wildlife is what makes them special.
Travelling light is essential, as there is a strict 15 kg maximum luggage limit due to the internal flight. Excess luggage will incur extra fees.

Important notes
1. Please note that these trips are for adults and children travelling together and there must be at least one child under 18 with you.
2. Minimum age for children on this trip is 5 years old.
3. A discount of 10% applies on this trip to children 17 years and under at time of travel.
4. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement excludes Days 02 (Sabah Tea Garden) , Days 3 & 4 (Jungle Camp) and Day 7 (Turtle Island) where you will be in shared accommodation and is subject to availability. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.
5. For some departures throughout the year we will only spend 1 night in the Eco Camp and 1 night in the Village in accommodation with attached bathrooms due to availability.
6. Borneo is a tropical country so rain can be expected at any time. The wet period in Borneo runs from November to February. Temperatures remain fairly constant year round with averages of 27-32°C/80-89°F and relative humidity of around 80%. Consider bringing a portable small neck fan with you to keep you and your family cool.
November to February is monsoon season for Selingan (Turtle Island) so if travelling during this time you should expect big waves and choppy seas. In cases of extreme weather, the trip to Selingan may be cancelled and alternative arrangements made.
7. Many hotels outside of the big cities of Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan have been built so travellers can enjoy the countryside, forest/mountain views, where people can wake up to nature sounds not cars. Many of the hotels we use are in such locations and can be quite remote. So access to restaurants are limited.
8. Borneo’s food is known for being fairly mild, with high reliance on fresh fruit and vegetables.
The cuisine is a mix of Thai, Malay and Indian. Cuisine staples include grilled fish, barbecued prawns, fried rice, noodles, and local vegetables seasoned with garlic, ginger, and rich sauces. Fish and chicken based soups with noodles cooked in a hot clay pot are very traditional.
9. Some governments may have increased travel advice levels in place for parts of Eastern Sabah, including Sandakan and Turtle Island. Ensure you check your government’s foreign travel advice for the most up to date information before you travel. If you have any questions about whether the current advice level affects your travel insurance coverage, please contact your insurance provider. Travel insurance is compulsory for all Tuuur traveller and must cover all destinations and activities on the itinerary. In addition to the increased security presence in the region, we have additional safety measures in place on our trips to comply with local regulations, including not travelling by boat at night and only travelling on approved routes and vessels.

Mark our guide was an absolute pleasure! Can’t recommend him as a guide highly enough.. His wealth of information and knowledge as a guide was very impressive. I was impressed by his leadership and attention to detail. He was always helpful, thoughtful and kind to myself and our group. This experience was a trip of a lifetime, one I will never forget. A dream of mine was to see orangutans in the wild and he delivered that and so much more! 10/10 for this tour!

The trip was well organised. The guides were very friendly and helpful. It is a trip both for adults and children although some challenges remain such as the jungle night walk. It helps everyone to come out of their confort zone. Altogether we enjoyed it a lot.

Fantastic trip with my 13 year old son creating memories of a lifetime. This is our second intrepid family holiday and it didn't disappoint. To many highlights, but two were seeing Orangatan in the wild building it's nest, and watching a turtle laying eggs. Highly recommend.

Our Borneo adventure was a real adventure - sleeping under mosquito nets in the jungle - river cruises to spot orangutangs - refreshing mandi (bucket shower) in the jungle - releasing turtle hatchlings A whole bunch of novel experiences which the whole family enjoyed.

If you are thinking about taking this trip you won't regret it. It felt like it was the perfect way to explore the wildlife and meet some local people and see some of Borneo. Our guide Phillis was fantastic, the accommodation exceeded my expectations and we managed to get lucky and see orangutans and proboscis monkey in the wild. Our highlights were staying in the village, the wildlife and meeting everyone on our tour.

The Borneo family holiday lived up to our expectations and much more. It was the trip of a lifetime; excellent activities and opportunities to see a stunning array of wildlife. The jungle eco-camp was an incredible experience, and the chance to see rescued orangutans and sun bears at such close quarters in Sepilok rehabilitation centres was also a firm favourite of my daughter. Witnessing the epic life events of green turtles and how they are given a helping hand by dedicated staff was incredible, and the location was stunning.
