Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Explore one of the world’s highest cities, La Paz! Take an urban cable car for epic valley views, shop for potions in the Witches Market or hunt for the best choripan (Bolivian hot dog).
Buckle up for a 4WD adventure through the Andean Desert. Barren, haunting and spectacular, the laws of earthly physics seem to bend on the surreal Salar de Uyuni salt flats.
Choose to visit the otherworldly landscape of Valle de la Luna – a maze of canyons and colossal clay spires that makes you feel you’re walking on the moon.
Get close to 68-million-year-old dinosaur footprints and visit grand mansions in the historic capital of Sucre.
Learn about Bolivia’s past as you explore the narrow streets and Spanish architecture of Potosi, which was once one of the wealthiest cities in the world.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip visits places at high altitude, and some people can suffer from altitude sickness, regardless of age or physical health. Please see the medical and health information section of the Essential Trip Information for more details.
You'll spend a lot of time in a 4WD which is likely to have all seats occupied while crossing some bumpy surfaces. This is the best way to see the sights in and around Uyuni and is all part of the adventure.
The excursion to Salar de Uyuni is on a shared basis and your group size may be larger than 12 travellers.
In Bolivia (especially in Uyuni), things don't always go to plan. An attraction may be closed for the day without notice or reason. Although this doesn't happen very often, please be prepared for the possibility.
Making your way across the Andean Desert and salt flats isn’t exactly luxurious. Temperatures in the area can be very cold, especially at night, so bring warm clothes. Meals are simple, toilet facilities are basic, showers can be cold, and the multishare accommodation is dormitory style. This is all part of the adventure. Without a doubt, this amazing experience will be one of the highlights of your trip.

Bolivia Highlights was pure magic. Some days I felt awe every hour—salt flats, flamingos in snow, coloured lagunas, bubbling geysers, smoking volcanoes, hot springs, and endless cacti (I love cacti!). Our tour leader, Julia, was incredible—efficient, knowledgeable, and always one step ahead. She made a great trip unforgettable.

This was a truly unforgettable journey through one of South America's most captivating and diverse countries. The Bolivia Highlights itinerary was exceptionally well-designed, offering a perfect balance of cultural immersion, natural wonders, and unique local experiences. From the surreal landscapes of the Uyuni Salt Flats to the vibrant streets of La Paz and the tranquillity of Lake Titicaca, each destination offered something special and memorable. What really elevated this trip, however, was our tour leader, who was simply outstanding. Her enthusiasm, deep local knowledge, and unwavering support made all the difference. She was always approachable, exceptionally well-organised, and kept us informed and engaged throughout the trip. Her ability to clearly explain the principles of responsible tourism and how they applied to our daily activities added a thoughtful and meaningful layer to the experience. Thanks to Julia's dedication and Intrepid’s strong, locally-connected itinerary, we came away not just with amazing memories and photos, but with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Bolivia. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for a genuine and enriching travel experience.

I can’t recommend Bolivia enough. This country is truly the secret of South America, full of adventure and beauty. Come with an open mind, talk with everyone you meet and prepare to be amazed! Intrepid is good for helping with trip efficiency and safety. Things like tipping and buying water were easy as our guide helped create a kitty and took care of this for us. I made new friends on this trip and truly enjoyed my group. I recommend this trip plus adding on a solo trip to isla de sol if you have time to see the best highlights!!

My trip in Bolivia was absolutely amazing, and definitely exceeded my expectations! Bolivia is a hidden gem for which nothing could have prepared me for the absolute beauty I was about to see. Karina (our tour leader) was phenomenal and made the entire trip so easy… it felt like I was travelling with a group of friends instead of a group of random tourist I just met. Will definitely look at booking with Intrepid again in the future.

Bolivia may not be top of people's travel destinations, but it is a wonderful country with some of the best scenery in the world. The salt flats and the red lagoon are surreal.

Amazing place. We loved seeing Bolivia with our wonderful guide Julia, who told us “this will be an adventure not a holiday”. And it was!! The scenery is stunning, but please read trip notes before deciding to travel here. There are some long travel days, showers may not always be hot (ours were though) and the altitude is relatively high, but it was all worth it to experience this fascinating country.
