Trip Informations
Experience the majestic landscapes and joyful culture of little-visited Bhutan on this seven-day adventure. Begin in Thimphu, Bhutan’s busy capital, where you’ll meet local artisans and visit a living museum showcasing traditional Bhutanese homes. Take in incredible views of the Himalayas on your way to Punakha, where your local leader will introduce you to ancient dzongs, bridges and monasteries. Tuck into a home-cooked meal at a farmhouse in the Paro Valley, try your hand at archery – Bhutan’s national sport – and hike to the legendary Tiger’s Nest monastery. You’ll soon see why Bhutan’s people are considered some of the happiest on earth.
Why you’ll love this trip
Hike to Taktsang, commonly known as the Tiger's Nest – the small monastery clinging to a rocky cliff 900 m above the Paro valley floor – and soak in the incredible views.
Discover the 15th-century fertility temple of Chimi Lhakhang, then see the magnificent Punakha Dzong, an ancient fortress and religious centre that sits at the confluence of two rivers.
Feel the heat of Bhutanese cuisine when you tuck into traditional meals made with red rice, datshi (a local traditional cheese) and lots of tastebud-tingling chillies.
Experience Bhutanese hospitality in the Paro Valley when you enjoy a home-cooked meal at a rustic farmhouse and opt to take a soak in a traditional hot stone bath.
Spend a day exploring both the city and woodlands of Thimphu, visiting the Cheri Dorji Dhen monastery, National Memorial Chorten, the Simply Bhutan interactive museum and the National Textile Museum.
Is this trip right for you?
Despite Bhutan being a small country, you'll experience long travel days as most roads are single lane. It’s all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. Please read the itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.
The trek to Tiger's Nest is quite vigorous, but it’s well worth the climb. Please ensure you bring sturdy walking shoes and comfortable clothes. To make the most of this hike, it's best if you have at least a moderate level of fitness.
This is trip spends time at altitude; you should refer to the Medical & Health Information for this trip to understand the risks.
Hot water is limited in some places. Speaking of all things heated, the Bhutanese love chilli and the food can be a touch spicy.
All meals are included due to the nature of travelling in Bhutan. This means there may be limited choices on some days.

I have wanted to visit Bhutan for a while now. So glad to have been able to. To experience their such proud culture, their amazing country, and people. So much more than I expected. One of my favourite Countries of Asia. The respect of the people for their surroundings, for each other, for all that is....something you can feel and see. So privileged to be able to experience this, thank you Intrepid.

Bhutan is an incredibly beautiful place full of ancient history and modern every day life. For this trip our guide Pratap and driver Yodari supported our group of 9 like-minded people and made it memorable and fun. It was paced so well and nobody suffered from altitude sickness. Certainly a trip to remember for so many reasons!

Bhutan is a fantastically enchanting country! We had a great tour guide, young, hospitable and proud of his culture and country. The faith of Bhutanese people shapes their way of life and the peace and calm of the country. Our trip reminded me to take time to be present and mindful, needless to say I left Bhutan with a new found peace and calm. The sites were magical, hikes were enjoyable and the monks in prayer simply mesmerising. Thank you Intrepid for another great trip!
