Trip Informations
Spend four days in the Red Centre exploring some of Australia’s most incredible natural wonders. Starting in the quintessential Outback town of Alice Springs, you’ll go on a celestial journey through the glittering night sky with an expert astronomer, then hit the road to Western MacDonnell Ranges National Park (Tjoritja) to learn about its sacred sites with a First Nations guide. Make your way to King Canyon to hike across its famous sandstone plateau, then witness the scale and colours of Uluru at sunset and sunrise. Pack your hiking shoes, swimmers and special adventure shirt (you know the one), because this trip is packed with activities that'll show you what the Outback is all about.
Why you’ll love this trip
verified
Discover the ever-changing colours of Uluru – one of Australia’s most spiritually significant sites – at sunrise and sunset and walk through the towering rock domes of Kata Tjuta.
verified
Learn about the spiritual significance of Simpsons Gap and the great Tjunba (Perentie) totem that protects the gorge during a guided walk with a First Nations guide.
verified
Experience Outback hospitality at Earth Sanctuary – a family-owned and award-winning dinner show. Tuck into a gourmet barbeque before joining an astronomer on a journey through the night sky.
verified
Stay in hotels with all you need for a comfortable stay – travelling through the Outback doesn’t always mean tents and basic amenities!
Is this trip right for you?

Temperatures in the Red Centre can be extreme, so you'll need to be well prepared. Depending on the time of the year, daytime can be very hot (and the Australian sun is very strong year-round), so always use sun protection and drink plenty of water. In the evenings temperatures can really drop, so bring sufficient warm clothing too – especially in winter when temperatures can drop below zero.
verified
This trip involves some early mornings and on some days you’ll spend several hours driving through very sparse areas of Australia. Sit back and enjoy landscapes that you'd miss in any other form of travel. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. Think of it as a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. The days can be long, but you’ll want to fit as much of this amazing place in as you can in four short days!
verified
Sunrise, sunset and weather conditions vary throughout the year, and the order of activities may change to ensure you have the best experience possible. On occasion, the First Nations experiences may not be available should your guides have other cultural commitments, in which case there will be alternative activities.

Takes you effortlessly to some of the less accessible areas with like minded people and a great group leader. Well worth doing

I had an excellent time on this trip. While I wish it was a day or so longer, it provided great exposure to Uluru and the surrounding area. Tracey, our guide, was absolutely fantastic and I couldn’t have asked for a better person to be our trip leader. Long travel days are unavoidable in this area of Australia, but they didn’t take away from the rest of the trip in my opinion.

Intrepid's small group tours offer personalised attention and a consistently high standard of accommodation and food, creating a well-organised and secure environment, which is especially beneficial for solo travellers. The diverse age range within the groups adds a vibrant dynamic to the travel experience, something I hope to see continue on future Intrepid adventures.

A quick trip to kings canyon and Uluṟu. A lot of travelling to get to destinations but expected and well worth it! The outback is unbelievable and so worth experiencing. Great to be able to sit back and travel throughout the outback. The red centre is special!

We had a fantastic trip with Intrepid. It was the first Intrepid trip we’d been on. Our leader Pat was kind, good fun and knowledgeable. Everything ran really smoothly and was very well thought out. We would highly recommend Intrepid.

This is a great short tour. The accommodation is top notch, the included meals are at great restaurants and a nice bonus. Having aboriginal guides for Simpsons Gap and Uluru was essential to feeling a connection to the culture. It’s a little pricey but it is definitely a comfort tour. You won’t be disappointed

Thoroughly enjoyable and educational tour of the main sights in fair comfort, in a relatively small group and with a knowledgeable guide. A huge amount is packed into the time available. As a solo traveller I was very pleased by how friendly and welcoming the group was.
