Trip Informations
Spend four days in the Red Centre exploring some of Australia’s most incredible natural wonders. Starting in the quintessential Outback town of Alice Springs, you’ll go on a celestial journey through the glittering night sky with an expert astronomer, then hit the road to Western MacDonnell Ranges National Park (Tjoritja) to learn about its sacred sites with a First Nations guide. Make your way to King Canyon to hike across its famous sandstone plateau, then witness the scale and colours of Uluru at sunset and sunrise. Pack your hiking shoes, swimmers and special adventure shirt (you know the one), because this trip is packed with activities that'll show you what the Outback is all about.
Why you’ll love this trip
Discover the ever-changing colours of Uluru – one of Australia’s most spiritually significant sites – at sunrise and sunset and walk through the towering rock domes of Kata Tjuta.
Learn about the spiritual significance of Simpsons Gap and the great Tjunba (Perentie) totem that protects the gorge during a guided walk with a First Nations guide.
Experience Outback hospitality at Earth Sanctuary – a family-owned and award-winning dinner show. Tuck into a gourmet barbeque before joining an astronomer on a journey through the night sky.
Stay in hotels with all you need for a comfortable stay – travelling through the Outback doesn’t always mean tents and basic amenities!
Is this trip right for you?
Temperatures in the Red Centre can be extreme, so you'll need to be well prepared. Depending on the time of the year, daytime can be very hot (and the Australian sun is very strong year-round), so always use sun protection and drink plenty of water. In the evenings temperatures can really drop, so bring sufficient warm clothing too – especially in winter when temperatures can drop below zero.
This trip involves some early mornings and on some days you’ll spend several hours driving through very sparse areas of Australia. Sit back and enjoy landscapes that you'd miss in any other form of travel. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. Think of it as a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. The days can be long, but you’ll want to fit as much of this amazing place in as you can in four short days!
Sunrise, sunset and weather conditions vary throughout the year, and the order of activities may change to ensure you have the best experience possible. On occasion, the First Nations experiences may not be available should your guides have other cultural commitments, in which case there will be alternative activities.
This trip forms part of some longer combination tours. If you would like to continue exploring Australia with us, consider booking our Best of Australia (PZKAC) trip. See our website for details. Intrepid provided an excellent trip for the Best of Uluṟu and Kings Canyon. There was a lot to see in an ‘express’ trip and the long days were very manageable and fun. It was great to benefit from the local knowledge provided by the trip leader. There were fourteen in our group and it was a good size to travel with. Hotels and food excellent. The ‘sights’ were brilliant. Highly recommend this.

I loved this tour. It moves quickly and Kings Canyon Rim Walk is challenging but we had a wonderful tour guide in Jessie, who is very well informed and enthusiastic and ensured everything went smoothly. This beautiful tour will stay with me!

My trip to Kings Canyon and Uluru with Intrepid was a wonderful experience that I'll never forget. Travelling with a small group and a guide really enriches the experience, and I learnt so much more than I would have travelling on my own. The guide, the acccommodation, food, experiences and destinions were all first rate. Loved it all.

Highly recommended. We did the Best of Uluru four-day trip, and it was fantastic. Our leader Miguel was great, very patient and accommodating. We saw everything we wanted to, we stayed in nice accomodation, and we made it to every location on time and with ease. The app intrepid use is great too for reminding ourselves of the itinerary, and to stay in touch with the group throughout the trip.

This was a good trip made great by our fantastic guide Mary, and a friendly bunch of people. Singles and couples fit in perfectly side by side on these holidays which as solo traveller I appreciate. All the important Red Centre bases were covered, it was a very positive and memorable holiday.

We’ve just completed three wonderful days at Uluru and Kings Canyon with Mary, our fabulous guide, and a lovely group of 15 people. My sister and I are staying one extra day in Uluru so we can explore around Uluru by bike. It’s been a fabulous tour and such a great experience.

We had a fabulous trip to Uluru and Kings Canyon with Intrepid. Whilst there are many tour operators, the enthusiastic and knowledgeable local guides help to bring the people and magical places to life. Although a little exhausting, we’ll be booking another trip soon. Thank you!

Takes you effortlessly to some of the less accessible areas with like minded people and a great group leader. Well worth doing
