Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Trek through the dramatic red dunes of the Sahara Desert on a camel’s back, experiencing an unforgettable sunset – then stay under a blanket of North African stars in a desert camp.
Embrace the Atlantic breeze in the coastal town of Tangier and see the vivid blue hues of Chefchaouen over sunset, while you explore the houses and laneways of this surreal city.
Stay in a traditional Amazigh homestay high in the Atlas Mountains and enjoy a homecooked meal of Moroccan favourites, learning about the culture and traditions of an Indigenous population who’ve stood the test of time.
Kick back in the coastal town of Essaouira and discover the winding laneways at your own pace. Then, meet a local fisherman by the seaside and learn about his life and this traditional practice.
Explore the old medina of Marrakech and the labyrinthine medina of bustling Fes with knowledgable local guides, discovering the myriad of sights, smells and sounds along zigzagging lanes. Then, discover the colourful chaos of Djemaa el-Fna Square.
Is this trip right for you?
Don’t let the heat keep you from exploring the world! Summer temperatures can be extremely high in Morocco (over 40°C), which can make things uncomfortable. It’s essential to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat, and drink plenty of water.
Ramadan is an annual month-long festival, during which travel can be a rewarding cultural experience, however some regular services may not be available during the day, such as restaurants or cafes, and occasionally travel can be disrupted by events. Your leader will adjust the itinerary accordingly, but please consider this when selecting your travel dates. You’ll find dates and further information in the ‘Climate and seasonal information’ section of the Essential Trip Information.
There are a couple of long travel days on this trip, particularly the day travelling to the Sahara Desert. Rest stops will be made on the way and you’ll be rewarded with great views on the drive itself.
Itinerary
All the best bits of Morocco, from colourful cities and medinas to the mountains and the desert
If you’re looking for a two-week adventure full of Morocco’s highlights, this trip is for you! This was my first experience with a tour group of any type and was very pleased. The size of our group was perfect, the attentiveness of our leader was incredible and my appreciation for Moroccan and its beautiful people will be something I value forever.

This trip was a wonderful way to see so many different aspects of Morocco. I was astounded by how different each of the cities were. I loved the Sahara stay, and I didn't expect the mountains to be so impressive!

The 'Best of Morocco' small group tour, led by Mohammed, was exceptional. The reality of the experience exceeded even the well written day by day itinerary provided by Intrepid. The diverse terrain covered as astonishing as one day we were on the beautiful blue coast overlooking the Sea of Gibraltor and then the next day we were hiking up the High Atlas Mtgs interacting with Berbere shepherds. On occasion, Mohammed would have the driver pull over the van and then lead us through the most authentic souks which were filled with the daily goings on of small village market life. The time spent in the van moving from location to location allowed needed rest times, work opportunities, chats with fellow travellers, and history/culture updates from Mohammed. There were many small 'perks' that were unexpected on the trip, like laundry service twice, food tour samples, noos noos (coffee) stops, plentiful 'happy room' (bathroom) stops. Mohammed was behind the scenes making getting from one location to another seamless whether it was train, bus, donkey, or camel travel! The people of Mohammed were kind, playful and tolerant of our inquisitive stares and haggling blunders. Overall, this was one of the best trips of my life so far and I am intrigued to look into more Intrepid destinations. Good job Mohammed!!

Our "The Best of Morocco" trip was an outstanding holiday. Under the professional and capable leadership of our guide, Mohamed, we experienced a truely unique culture in a widely diverse country. Going from the fringe of Sahara desert to the snow capped Atlas mountains to the Atlantic Ocean it was wonderful trip.

Intrepid’s Best of Morocco was an unforgettable experience! As a solo traveller, our guide, Mohamed, was incredible! His knowledge, passion, and local connections made every stop meaningful. He navigated challenges effortlessly, kept the group engaged, and championed responsible tourism. If this is Intrepid’s standard, I’m already planning my next trip. I highly recommend it!

The Best of Morocco is a great trip, with mountains, canyons, cities, beaches, ruins, quaint towns, and dessert--all in one. It's amazing. I traveled with 14 other people from Austrailia, New Zealand, England, the US and Switzerland, with our leader Brahim who was from the mountain town we visited. He had great insights to share. The group was fantastic, and when we weren't all fantastic, Brahim was calm and patient. With local guides in each of the places we visited, we learned and saw a lot, had great food, walked a lot of miles and drank a good amount of mint tea. My tips: Leave the sleeping bag at home, there are plenty of blankets I promise. The breakfasts are perfectly adequate and always had protein, pack light with the knowledge that you'll be moving around every day or two, and have a great time!

This trip was absolutely fantastic. I had a great time and it really cured my need for adventure! The itinerary was very well varied with trips to cities and Medinas, and time spent in the desert, mountains, by the ocean and time in nature. Something for everyone, highly recommend!
