Trip Informations
Amazing wildlife, both on land and underwater, make the remote Galapagos Islands a bucket list destination. On this 10-day trip through the best of the Galapagos, you’ll uncover the outstanding natural beauty of these islands both on foot and by boat, looking for giant tortoises, sharks, blue-footed boobies, pelicans, seals, iguanas, dolphins, whales and birdlife along the way. Trace Darwin's theory of evolution, go snorkelling across multiple islands, hike up a volcano for the best views and soak up the experience with a group of likeminded travellers and a local leader who knows all the best spots.
Why you’ll love this trip
verified
Encounter the nearly extinct giant Galapagos tortoises, as well as blue-footed boobies, pelicans, frigatebirds, land and marine iguanas, sea lions, fur seals and maybe even dolphins and whales!
verified
Go snorkelling on multiple days throughout different islands, keeping an eye out for sea turtles and the harmless Galapagos shark.
verified
Get your blood pumping as you scale the Sierra Negra Volcano – one of the Galapagos’ most active volcanoes and home to the world's second-largest crater!
verified
Learn how to make the famed encebollado – a local tuna soup considered one of the best in the world! Watch a cooking demonstration, then tuck into the hearty dish for lunch.
verified
Experience a land-based Galapagos trip, using locally owned hotels on the islands instead of staying on a boat – this means you’ll have more opportunities to interact with the locals.
Is this trip right for you?
verified
This trip visits places that are at high altitude, and as a result some people can suffer from altitude sickness, regardless of age or physical health. Please see the Medical and health information section of the Essential Trip Information for more details.
verified
This trip includes a 17 km hike (approximately 6 to 7 hours) on rocky terrain. We recommend bringing comfortable shoes with good support. Please see Day 6 of the Itinerary for more information.
verified
This trip involves a lot of travel by speedboat between the various Galapagos Islands. The rides can be quite bumpy at times, but the good news is that seasickness can often be managed with medication. Please consult a health professional to assess your suitability for such medication.
verified
From June to August, the water in the Galapagos can be rougher than usual. Consequently, travel times will be longer than usual. If you suffer from seasickness, you may want to reconsider travelling during this period.
verified
Proximity to the equator means the sun in the Galapagos is incredibly strong. Come prepared with sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. We also recommend a rash guard.
verified
This trip includes snorkelling on multiple days. Confident swimming skills are required to take part. Alternative activities will not be available.
verified
The Galapagos is a great place to switch off and take a break from your phone, as internet access can be patchy and wi-fi is not always available or reliable.
verified
Hot water can be sporadic in some parts of the Galapagos, so there may be a few cold showers on the trip.

The beauty , the wonder, and the environmental need to protect the Galapagos was brought to light on this trip. Our small group, with an exceptional guide, gave me the experience of lifetime. Activities were well planned and still left time for spontaneity if the schedule needed to be changed because of the weather. Truly unique !

The Best of Galapagos was the trip of a lifetime that had been on my bucket list for a long time. Intrepid made it possible in a logistically, environmentally, and financially accessible way. We got to see and experience so much - every day felt like 4 amazing days in one. I loved that we went snorkeling almost every single day! The itinerary was a perfect mix of activities exploring both the nature and culture of the islands. While it was very fast-paced, allowing us to see as much as possible during the time we had, we did occasionally find some downtime for quiet moments and sunrise/sunset walks.
This was my first group travel experience and I really enjoyed the social aspect of trip. It seems that Intrepid brings together like-minded people who are curious, respectful, and interested in fully experiencing both nature and culture. Our group had a good mix of ages and solo travelers, couples, and friends. It definitely felt like traveling with friends by the end.
For me, the best aspect of the trip was our local guide in the Galapagos, Katherine Célleri. She is an expert naturalist that was born and raised on the islands. She was incredible at spotting wildlife and organizing our activities in a way that avoided tourist crowds and minimized impacts on the wildlife and environment. As a local, Katti provided context on the history, culture, and conservation challenges of the Galapagos in a nuanced way. I really enjoyed the farm and shop visits at the end of the trip during which Katti highlighted local sustainability projects and the culture and life of galapagueños. We felt very lucky to have Katti as our leader.

Ever since my teenage years, when I had a copy of On the Origin of Species sitting on my bookshelf (mostly as decor, hehe) , it felt like Galápagos was a magical place that existed only in books and documentaries. So my expectations were incredibly high, yet this tour exceeded them. A huge part of that was our guide, Katherine, who made everything run effortlessly. She handled every detail, so we could enjoy the experience, and her endless knowledge about the islands, wildlife, and history made the trip even more memorable.
Swimming alongside sea lions, turtles, penguins, and even see sharks somehow became the most normal thing in the world. It still feels surreal to think about.
If you’re considering a trip to the Galápagos, I can’t recommend this tour enough. It truly was the experience of a lifetime.

This is a truly wonderful and unique trip for anyone who loves and appreciates nature and wildlife . Never have I experienced daily natural encounters with the most unusual and fabulous animals . At one point I had walked into the ocean and was immediately surrounded by penguins , sea lions , turtles , black tip sharks and feeding pelicans all around me . All islands , particularly Isabella have really lovely restaurants and cool bars even though the islands remain truly unspoilt .

An amazing trip to Galapagos. Lots of activities every day, you see the most amazing wildlife up close and personal. Cesar or Cheche was the best guide I have ever had on a trip. He is incredibly knowledgeable, caring, enthusiastic and supportive. He went above and beyond for the group every day. Definitely the trip of a lifetime and well worth it. Do it.

At 71, I was the oldest woman and overall oldest in our group. I was able to keep up! (Thanks to an Intrepid buddy with a life ring when snorkeling in currents.) Absolutely spectacular trip. If you're reasonably fit, go!
