The Ocean Nova is an ice-strengthened ship – large, sturdy and suited to the unpredictable Antarctic waters. Some people may experience seasickness in occasional rough seas however, we do have a doctor on board should you need assistance. Over-the-counter seasickness medication is usually an easy fix.

Temperatures in the Antarctic can get very cold, but it also can get surprisingly warm when the sun comes out. We recommend dressing in layers when you journey outside. We’ll provide you with waterproof boots on loan that are sturdy and warm, as well as an inner jacket that is yours to keep. Please see the Essential Trip Information for notes on what to pack.

Depending on the weather, you’ll be travelling around in a Zodiac boat quite regularly to explore the area and search for wildlife. It can get cold and wet on the Zodiac, so make sure you dress appropriately and keep your camera safe and dry. A fair level of mobility is needed for wet and dry landings from the boat, as well as on steep terrain, snow and other uneven surfaces. As there is no lift on board, you'll also need to take stairs to get to the gangway and other parts of the ship.
verified
The weather plays a pivotal part in this adventure and, although there’s an itinerary in place, there are no guarantees that you’ll be able to do everything that is planned. A level of flexibility and openness to embracing the unexpected are important in expedition travel, especially in such a remote area like the Antarctic. There are nearly 200 recognised sites in the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetlands and the places mentioned in the itinerary may need to be changed to other locations – which are just as interesting and beautiful! We may also be confined to the ship during rough weather, but there are plenty on onboard resources and activities.
Itinerary
Take the chance to see Antarctica’s wildest side
Experience awe-inspiring scenery and untamed wildlife on a 13-day voyage to the Antarctic Peninsula. This expedition introduces you to the wonders and highlights of the White Continent, with additional days to better explore the Antarctica Peninsula. Encounter Weddell seals lazing on ice floes, whales breaching the frigid waters and several species of penguins shuffling across the frozen shores. You’ll cruise around the ice-filled waters by Zodiac, landing on the Antarctic Continent itself for onshore excursions that will afford jaw-dropping views. The onboard Expedition Team will offer priceless knowledge and insight, bringing the world’s most incredible landscapes to life.

What impressed me most was the passion and knowledge of the guides, one was getting her PHD in marine biology and several had worked in the northern attic as well. Since every trip is different due to weather and ice, we stopped at several places they hadn’t been before so an adventure for them too

This is an incredible expedition. Very well organized - timing, cruises, landings, social events, presentations, yoga... The crew is super positive, smily, friendly, knowledgeable, and funny. I strongly recommend this trip to the coldest and windiest continent with this crew!

This was the perfect trip to give me the true Antarctica experience I was looking for - the 7 days actually in Antarctica was the right amount of time to get activities in that covered all the facets Antarctica has to offer and to do so across the Weddell Sea and 'downtown' Peninsula is really special. Make sure you add on some of the additional activities if available - I did the photo program, camping and day paddle and enjoyed them all. It's such a unique trip in that all guests really feel the spirit of the expedition and the staff and crew are warm and engaging, and want to ensure you have the best and informed experience so it's a truly unforgettable experience that will be impossible to beat.

This 14-day expedition to Antarctica has been one of the best holidays of my life. Between the contagious excitement of my new-found friends (seriously met some of the best people on the planet here) and the excellent expedition crew and ship staff, we had an unforgettable adventure and were not ready to return back home. I cannot recommend highly enough the kayak option - it was such a unique and precious way to to experience the peninsula and I have such breathtaking moments from that program. Thank you, Intrepid crew and staff for such a lovely two weeks.

This was a trip of a lifetime! Antarctica has absolutely captured my heart and, if at all possible again, I want to come back. The crew were fantastic from start to finish. Everyone has been so approachable and every day you could hear laughter all around. Expeditions were well thought out and executed, while safety for passengers and Antartica's wildlife and environment was always pur first. Flexibility and adaptability is key and we did have a few changes to our itinerary but we got the full experience nonetheless with stunning landing sites and unique experiences provided by our fab expedition team. 10 out of 10!
