Trip Informations
Mix medieval castles with underground absinthe bars on this eight-day adventure through Central Europe’s most fascinating cities. See some of the best landmarks on walks through Berlin and Prague, uncovering post-war history as you explore both on your own and with your local leader. Dine on belly-filling Saxon specialties in Dresden and Slovak favourites in Budapest. Take in Europe’s scenic countryside as you travel by train, explore the lively boutiques and cafes in Bratislava and immerse yourself in the bohemian vibes of the Czech Republic. With plenty of free time at each stop and a trip leader with the best local knowledge and recommendations, you won’t be short of stories after this trip.
Why you’ll love this trip
Explore historical landmarks in Berlin with your local leader and during your free time, maybe see the remaining fragments of the infamous wall that once divided the city.
Get to know Dresden, maybe taking a river cruise along the Elbe, popping into a Neumarkt restaurant for a hearty Saxon lunch and discovering the street art of the creative Neustad district on an evening stroll.
Immerse yourself in the bohemian vibes of the Czech Republic, soak up the smooth sounds of jazz at a low-lit bar in Prague and, if you like, sample some locally made pilsners.
Indulge in the flavours of Central Europe every step of the way. After a free day in Budapest, maybe seek out some local delicacies like kapustnica or a local beer.
Take in the scenic landscapes as you travel by train through Europe. Sit back, relax, play games with your fellow travellers or watch the changing scenery roll by.
Is this trip right for you?
Please keep your luggage as small and light as possible. You’ll be travelling on public transport where storage space is limited. You’ll need to be able to lift your luggage into storage racks, walk across cobblestone streets with it and carry it up and down stairs.
This itinerary has plenty of free time when your leader will offer suggestions. Please budget spending money for optional activities you want to take part in.
Accommodation on this trip is basic. Hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together/apart. Rooms can be small and, in some cases, bathroom facilities will be shared.
Summer temperatures can exceed 40° C in many regions, so use sun protection, wear light layers and drink plenty of water. Many European hotel rooms do not have air conditioning, which can make hot weather uncomfortable. In winter, pack warm, waterproof layers, as snow and rain are possible, and carefully consider which season best suits you.
The primary means of transportation on this trip is by train. Train travel is a fast way to traverse long distances, allowing you to avoid traffic jams and arrive right into the city centre. Trains are comfortable and often decked out with air-conditioning, toilets, a snack bar (or vending machine) and power points.
