Please keep your luggage as small and light as possible. You'll be travelling on public transport where storage space is limited. You'll need to be able to lift your luggage into storage racks, walk across cobblestone streets with it and carry it up and down stairs.
verified
This itinerary has a mix of included activities and free time when your leader will offer suggestions. Please budget spending money for optional activities you want to take part in.
verified
A short 4 km hike is included on this trip. You'll need a moderate level of fitness and suitable footwear and clothing. If hiking isn’t your thing, you'll have the option to explore Dresden or Rathen instead.
verified
Accommodation on this trip is basic. Hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together/apart. Rooms can be small and, in some cases, bathroom facilities will be shared.
verified
Summer temperatures can be very high in many of the regions visited (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please remember that many European hotel rooms are not equipped with air-conditioning. In Winter, warm layers will be needed as snow can be expected in some regions. Carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability for that season.
verified
The primary means of transportation on this trip is by train. Train travel is a fast way to traverse long distances, allowing you to avoid traffic jams and arrive right into the city centre. Trains are comfortable and often decked out with air-conditioning, toilets, a snack bar (or vending machine) and power points.
Itinerary
From Berlin to Budapest, you can bask in the Bohemian glow of eastern Europe

With plenty of free time at each stop and a trip leader who has the best local knowledge and recommendations, you won’t be short of stories after this trip.

My tour guide was Vanessa and she was the best I’ve ever had! She has endless knowledge about the history, culture and lifestyle about each and every place we went to. I had so many questions and helped me ease into the life of every place we went to. She always got to know everyone individually which I’ve never experienced before but loved very much and believe this is a trait all tour guides should have. She was so organised so I felt like I was truely on holidays and could relax. She was so funny and kind, the bond and connection we shared became more personal. She knew all the best places for money, culture and location. She gave me the best experience travelling!

Great whirlwind trip through Central Europe visiting some major cities. Train travel is terrific and there's a lot of history to explore. Not many inclusions so plan ahead what you'd like to see and do. Vanessa was a fantastic tour leader with genuine enthusiasm for her job and the places we visited. Some accommodation is basic and sometimes there's no stairs at hotels...pack accordingly!

I have really enjoyed this trip. Mel is a great leader and the itinerary allows you to visit many wonderful places in a short time. There is enough time to see almost everything properly and taking this trip during Christmas season allows you to see as many Christmas markets as you could possibly want. I really would have liked to have an half day or full day in Dresden. We only had a couple hours to see it at night after our Bastei hike and it is a really beautiful city.

This is not my first trip with Intrepid. Berlin to Budapest was very insightful. Dani the guide was amazing, extremely knowledgeable, friendly and approachable. If you are coming from far away I'd recommend coming a day earlier and staying an extra day. All countries are nice but I found Prague to be very beautiful. I was in a good small group that made the trip memorable too.

My Berlin to Budapest trip with Intrepid Travel was an unforgettable journey. Every city offered something unique, and the itinerary was perfectly balanced. Our tour leader, Marta, was outstanding—organised, knowledgeable, kind, and patient. The experience was seamless, enriching, and filled with lasting memories. Highly recommend this adventure!
