Trip Informations
Mix medieval castles with underground absinthe bars on this eight-day adventure through Central Europe. Hike to the sandstone pinnacles of Bastei, see some of the best landmarks on an orientation walk through Prague and visit a Czech brewery, where you can sample a pilsner in its homeland. Take in Europe’s scenic countryside as you travel by train, explore the lively boutiques and cafes in Bratislava and immerse yourself in the bohemian vibes of the Czech Republic. With plenty of free time at each stop and a trip leader who has the best local knowledge and recommendations, you won’t be short of stories after this trip.
Why you’ll love this trip
Explore the historical landmarks in Berlin. During your free time, maybe see the remaining fragments of the infamous wall that once divided the city.
Take in some of Germany’s best views from the heights of Bastei – a towering sandstone formation home to a medieval castle.
Immerse yourself in the bohemian vibes of the Czech Republic, soak up the smooth sounds of jazz at a low-lit bar in Prague and sample locally made pilsners.
Indulge in the flavours of Central Europe every step of the way. After a free day in Budapest, maybe seek out some local delicacies like kapustnica or a local beer.
Take in the scenic landscapes as you travel by train through Europe. Sit back, relax, play games with your fellow travellers, or watch the changing scenery roll by.
Is this trip right for you?
Please keep your luggage as small and light as possible. You'll be travelling on public transport where storage space is limited. You'll need to be able to lift your luggage into storage racks, walk across cobblestone streets with it and carry it up and down stairs.
This itinerary has a mix of included activities and free time when your leader will offer suggestions. Please budget spending money for optional activities you want to take part in.
A short 4 km hike is included on this trip. You'll need a moderate level of fitness and suitable footwear and clothing. If hiking isn’t your thing, you'll have the option to explore Dresden or Rathen instead.
Accommodation on this trip is basic. Hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together/apart. Rooms can be small and, in some cases, bathroom facilities will be shared.
Summer temperatures can be very high in many of the regions visited (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please remember that many European hotel rooms are not equipped with air-conditioning. In Winter, warm layers will be needed as snow can be expected in some regions. Carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability for that season.
The primary means of transportation on this trip is by train. Train travel is a fast way to traverse long distances, allowing you to avoid traffic jams and arrive right into the city centre. Trains are comfortable and often decked out with air-conditioning, toilets, a snack bar (or vending machine) and power points.

Our Tour leader - Balasz - made the tour great … Lots of knowledge and suggestions in each location …. It was a basics trip and he dealt professionally and patiently with our group that was aged from 18 to over 70 olds and went above and beyond what I know to be expected of an intrepid tour leader… up there with the best … shout out to Juan from Spain who did a great day tour of Barcelona uncovered too

An excellently planned tour of these countries; passing the perfect amount of time per city to feel their vibes and see the sights. I also deeply enjoyed our Tour Leader's knowledge, humour, and company.

Had a fabulous time exploring Europe, so much to see, taster visit to the different countries we visited. Accommodation was great, all clean and tidy, comfortable beds, ate out at local restaurants, all meals tasty and i had no complaints. Free time was enjoyable to be able to go out and do what you want to do, think its an excellent mix of a tour. Tour guide Martina was excellent, what a lovely lady, has a great sense of humor and was quite happy to be at the receiving end of banter amongst the group. So much laughter was had by all. Would recommend 100%, only think i would suggest is that you need to have a good level of fitness as some days you do need to lift luggage into over head compartments on the trains, otherwise go for it.

This trip was an incredible way to get a small taste of several Central European countries. The lodging was located in a great spot in most cities and the intercity travel was perfectly planned. Made the struggle of trip planning so easy on me as someone who hates planning. An amazing trip and I will be using intrepid for the future!

The Berlin to Budapest trip was a fantastic experience, offering a great mix of culture, history, and scenic travel across four countries. Everything was well organised, and the included activities were enjoyable. The tour guide was excellent, and the journey felt smooth, engaging, and memorable from start to finish.

My tour guide was Vanessa and she was the best I’ve ever had! She has endless knowledge about the history, culture and lifestyle about each and every place we went to. I had so many questions and helped me ease into the life of every place we went to. She always got to know everyone individually which I’ve never experienced before but loved very much and believe this is a trait all tour guides should have. She was so organised so I felt like I was truely on holidays and could relax. She was so funny and kind, the bond and connection we shared became more personal. She knew all the best places for money, culture and location. She gave me the best experience travelling!
