Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Hike in Ghana's Volta Region – home to lush farmlands, waterfalls and rolling hills – and in the Kpalime Region in Togo, surrounded by coffee and cocoa plantations.
Discover the sobering history of Ghana’s Slave Coast, with visits to coastal slave forts and castles, like Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle. Wander the lavish architecture as you learn about the grim history of slave trade in this region.
Experience a Vodun ceremony, which showcases the traditional spiritual practices brought to the Americas by enslaved Africans. These practices merged with Indigenous and European religions, evolving into Voodoo in Louisiana, Hoodoo in the Dominican Republic and Vodou in Haiti.
Visit small villages and markets to rub shoulders with the locals, and gain insight into how they live, prepare their food and celebrate their culture. At the Ganvie stilt village, you’ll get a special insight into the history of the people and how they live on the water with a boat tour through the village.
Spend a few days in Accra, Ghana's capital – here, you’ll go on a tasting tour in James Town (the old part of the city), visit fantasy coffin makers to learn how the local people respect the dead and tour Nima with visits to local houses and markets.
Is this trip right for you?
You’ll need to be moderately fit to enjoy the hikes on this tour. It will be hot and humid, so remember to bring a hat, sun protection, plenty of water, and sturdy, comfortable walking shoes.
Tourism infrastructure in Benin, Togo, and Ghana is still developing. In certain regions, electricity may be available only during specific hours. Hot water can be unreliable and Wi-Fi access is not widely available.
Temperatures in West Africa can be hot and humid year-round. Not all accommodation will have air-conditioning, which is common across the region, especially in smaller guesthouses or remote locations where power supply may be limited. Be prepared for warm nights and pack light, breathable clothing.
No two journeys in Africa are identical. Be prepared for travel times to be longer or shorter than advised. Weather, traffic, and road conditions can change things significantly, so embrace the unexpected and unforgettable moments along the way.

Fascinating to learn more about Voodoo culture and the slave trade, with a brilliant mix of other activities too. Accomodation quality very high indeed for West Africa, great to laze by the hotel pools or on the beaches at the end of a busy day. Tour leader Samuel was outstanding with his encyclopedic knowledge of all 3 countries.

An unforgettable journey. From witnessing traditional Vodun ceremonies to tackling some beautiful hikes, the trip was packed with moments that felt both surreal and deeply grounding. The friendliness of the people and the amazing food made every stop memorable. More powerful. and sobering was learning about the region's history of slavery, which was important to confront. All in all, an inspiring, and unforgettable adventure.

I loved this tour. It was well rounded with understanding the history, day to day life, and the rich cultures of Togo, Benin and Ghana. The hikes were a good challenge. I liked the food tours at the different markets. I would definitely encourage seeing West Africa with this tour especially with Sena and our driver, Anthony.

Such an interesting trip. Well off the tourist track. If you would enjoy a boat tour through a stilt village, learning about the slave trade which took place for 400 years, Voodoo in today's world, stand under the highest waterfall, climb the highest peak in Ghana, view the unique coffins, a canopy walk over the jungle and more, amongst the friendliest people of Benin, Togo and Ghana, then this is the trip for you. If you have Sena as your guide, it would be even better. Highly recommended.

A fascinating region to visit that is still untouched by mass tourism. I recommend it to any adventurous traveller who is prepared to rough it just a little. There is a heavy focus on local life – visiting markets and small villages etc. which is cool.

An unforgettable journey through Benin, Togo, and Ghana. From the calm waters of Ganvié’s stilt village to the lush forests of Mount Klouto and the coastal beauty of Elmina, every stop had its own charm. The trekking was rewarding, with incredible views from Mount Afadja and Mount Agou. Our guide Isac and the driver Eric, were outstanding , their knowledge, warmth, and care made this experience truly special. Highly recommended!

Benin, Togo & Ghana Adventure with our awesome guide from Benin - Sena was amazing. Began our exploration in Benin largest city Cotonou; and it was interesting to learn about Dahomey female warriors that were fierce and great defenders of Dahomey. It gave me better insight in the movie by Viola Davis called, "The Women King". As well as the movie, Black Panther with fierce women warriors, as well as many influences from other tribes we met on the trip. The Ga Tribe are known for their famous boxers and some influence by Muhammad Ali. We met the Ga Tribe in James Town Ghana. The Ga Tribe also shared with one of their favorite food called Kenkey made from Corn. In Benin Capital city Porto Novo we were introduced to the Palm trees; we then head to a village where we saw a lady making a juice as well as an alcoholic beverage from palm nut. In Togo we hiked up the Togo highest call Mt Agou 986 meters/3235 feet. The Agou hike was challenging and steep and we passed many coffee and cocoa trees. We also hike thru various villages seeing them cooking, washing and carrying many heavy things like wood on their head. In Ghana we swam next to the spectacular Wli waterfalls with fruit bats on the rocks on either side. I highly recommend this trip to try local cuisines, cultural events, meet many tribes with unique things to do...
