Trip Informations
Hit the major sights and sounds of China on a 12-day adventure from Beijing to Hong Kong. See the magnificent Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an, the giant pandas of Sichuan and the striking limestone karsts in Yangshuo. Wander the neon-lit streets of Hong Kong, meet locals over homemade dumplings and explore the Yangshuo countryside by bike. Travel nearly 4000 km with ease on China’s modern rail network and go back in time with a visit to an ancient town. With a knowledgeable local leader at the helm and a small group of travellers, your China adventure will be full of insightful history, delicious cuisine and unforgettable experiences.
Why you’ll love this trip
See the heart of China using the vast train network – you'll take one overnight train and three high-speed trains, covering almost 4000 km across the country from the north to the south!
Be welcomed into a local guesthouse near the Great Wall after hiking along this magnificent Wonder of the World, then join a dumpling demonstration for lunch.
Explore the countryside in the Yangshuo region, cycling through riverbanks and karsts and stopping at a local home for a freshly prepared lunch.
Embrace the epicurean delights of China – go on a leader-led tour of Xi’an’s Muslim quarter, where you can try lots of authentic snacks, head out for a day in Chengdu, a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, and indulge in some steaming hotpot in the Sichuan province.
Veer off the busy tourist trail when you visit the ancient town of Tai’an, hike down Mt Qingcheng – a sacred mountain in Taoism – and encounter giant pandas at the Dujiangyan Panda Breeding Center.
Is this trip right for you?
As this trip spends very little time in Beijing and Hong Kong, we recommend you spend a few extra days in these destinations before or after your trip if you want to experience all these cities have to offer.
Be prepared for some long travel days as we need to cover plenty of ground in order to see China's highlights. However, the scenery is absolutely amazing, so sit back, relax and soak it up.
China’s world-class sites and experiences draw large numbers of local and international travellers. We recommend a little patience and comfortable shoes as you may need to wait before entering the more popular locations on your itinerary.

I was very hesitant about a trip to China with intrepid but I’m glad I did it . I am a reasonably fit 72 year old and was unsure about how taxing it might be but realised again and again how good leader was and trusted his good judgement.

Never been to China? This trip is the perfect introduction. It moves from buzzing cities like Beijing and Hong Kong to quieter, more authentic spots like Chengdu and Yangshuo. The included bike ride is brilliant, the tea farm surprisingly fascinating, and the light show genuinely unmissable. Great food, warm people - highly recommended.

Our first intrepid tour to China was nothing short of amazing, this was not a fluke but the hard work and passion of our tour guide William Li. He was amazing! Highly recommend China, Intrepid and will certainly miss the fun we had with William!

Beijing to Hong Kong Adventure was an incredibly rich and rewarding experience, full of history, culture, food, scenery and unforgettable local moments. The itinerary was perfect for a first trip to China, giving us a brilliant highlights package while still feeling authentic and connected to the places we visited. The mix of high-speed rail and sleeper trains added so much to the overall experience, making the journey itself part of the adventure. Finishing in Hong Kong was also perfect. It gave the trip a completely different energy and made it easy to extend for a few extra days. Travelling with Intrepid felt like the best way to see a country like China, with the right balance of structure, local knowledge and free time to explore. I left with a real taste of China and a strong feeling that I want to go back and see much more.

Our trip to China was the first time we had ever travelled in a group and we loved the experience. We felt there was no way we would have experienced or done as much had we travelled independently. Will definitely use Intrepid again.

I can’t recommend this trip enough! For a first-time visit to mainland China, it ticked all my boxes and then some. Ancient sites, unique experiences I wouldn’t have found on my own, the food, the landscapes… all of it. It made me fall in love with China and I can’t wait to go back. It’s fast-paced and covers a lot of ground, but it never feels overwhelming. 10/10, would recommend - thanks Intrepid!
