Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Discover Gaudi’s architecture with your local leader by your side in Barcelona. After, maybe visit the La Sagrada Familia Basilica – the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world.
Join a mustard making workshop in Dijon. Learn the traditional process and create your own jar of homemade Dijon mustard, infused with your custom blend of flavours.
Walk the streets made famous by Game of Thrones in the medieval town of Girona. Stroll through the cobblestone streets and be transported to King's Landing and Braavos.
Explore the walled city of Avignon, crossing the 12th-century Pont St-Benezet bridge and munching on classic French fare like baguettes with cheese.
Travel like the locals do on public transport. Take the train cross-country and enjoy extra time to relax, play games with fellow travellers and watch the changing landscapes roll by.
Is this trip right for you?
Please keep your luggage as small and light as possible. You'll be travelling on public transport where storage space is limited. You'll need to be able to lift your luggage into storage racks, walk across cobblestone streets with it and carry it up and down stairs.
This trip is made for travellers who value their independence but also want the benefit of a local leader and a group of like-minded travellers. The itinerary has a mix of included activities and free time where your leader will have the best recommendations. Please budget spending money for optional activities. We recommend booking tickets one month in advance for any optional activities that require pre-booking.
As accommodation on this trip is twin-share, solo travellers will share a room with other travellers of the same gender. Hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together/apart. Rooms can be small and in some cases bathroom facilities will be shared rather than ensuite. Elevators may not be available in older buildings in Europe.
Summer temperatures can be very high in many of the regions visited (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat, and drink plenty of water. Please keep in mind that many European hotel rooms are not equipped with air-conditioning. In Winter, warm waterproof layers will be needed as snow and rain can be expected. Carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.
The primary means of transportation on this trip is by train. Trains are a fast way to cross long distances, allowing you to avoid traffic jams and arrive in the city centre.
The best way to experience a city is by doing as the locals do – and in this case that means using public transport such as trams, buses or metro at some locations. Make sure your shoes are comfy as you’ll spend most days on your feet.
Itinerary
Explore some western Europe highlights from Spain to France
Get a snapshot of some of the best bits of northern Spain and eastern France. Wander the streets of Barcelona and see the incredible architecture of Gaudi throughout the city before being transported back in time to the medieval walls of Girona. Learn the history of gladiators and bullfighters in the Roman amphitheatre of Nimes and watch the mammoth mountains and crystal coasts streak past on your way to Avignon. Join a mustard making workshop in Dijon and round it all out in the iconic City of Lights – Paris!

Our tour leader Analía was quite pleasant, knowledgeable and energetic. She ensured that she booked meals at restaurants that catered to persons like me, being vegetarian. She was well versed on the transportation and ensured that navigating between cities and countries went quite smoothly. She went above and beyond, always checking to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and keeping pace with the, at times, hectic schedule.

This is a great tour but do NOT pack a heavy case. I would suggest you review all the YouTube videos on how to reduce your packing and to be efficient. The happy travellers have the lightest backpacks!!! The tour leader is excellent and the places are always great! Go and experience great travel!

This tour and its organization and experienced leader - did not disappoint! It was exactly as I had hoped for - and more. Amazing leader and group member who were all like-minded and became friends! The destinations were perfect - just allow more time in the cities where you commence and conclude your tour. It will be so worth it! Read the tour information well ahead and you will be well informed of exactly what lies ahead.
