If you love history, culture, or true adventure, this trip is an absolute must! My husband and I were completely captivated from start to finish. Not only do you get to explore the stunning Balkan countryside, but you also get to experience it with a warm, friendly group of people who share the same passion for world history.
We were lucky enough to have the best host I’ve ever met: Mia Mitrovic. Mia is so much more than a tour guide—she’s an incredible storyteller who shares hidden gems only a native could know. From the moment you meet her, she treats you like an old friend returning for a visit.
What makes the journey truly unforgettable is her openness. As a war survivor, she speaks about her history with deeply moving passion, raw honesty, and vivid detail. Hearing her perspective transforms the scenery into a living history, leaving you deeply connected to the region and welcomed as an honored guest rather than just another tourist.
I rarely leave reviews, but thank you, Mia, for an unforgettable journey!"

We had the most wonderful experience traveling through the Balkans with Intrepid. The well-planned itinerary offered a perfect balance of cities and nature, historical context and present day life. We loved our guide, Mia - knowledgeable, respectful, caring, and fun. We felt fortunate that our group of 12 formed a wonderful bond which enhanced the trip even more!

I’m so glad I stumbled across Intrepid! My trip through the Balkans was far more enriching than I expected — and empowering as the first time I’ve traveled alone. The camaraderie and experiences made my summer. .

Balkan Adventure is a trip that combines culture, history, people, nature, food and memories into one. I loved it! Each day provided something different and there were some free days that allowed you to access tours or sights that might have caught your interest the day before. It is a complex part of Europe, made all the more interesting and understood by this tour. Mia was our tour leader and I hope you get her should you pick this trip, as her organisation, local stories and knowledge of the area is what made a great itinerary an amazing experience.

My trip was Vienna to Dubrovnik but it was a two part trip and intrepid for some reason doesn't let me rate the full itinerary. Budapest to Dubrovnik portion is fast pace..a.bit challenging during the heat of summer but has a good balance of experiences covering both cultural and nature exploration. Having many free days at locations to explore at your own pace and interest. I found it very positive. Good hotels, great itinerary and comfortable transportation. Great tour guide, Filip

Balkan Adventure was far more than a trip. It was sharing coffee with strangers who became friends, exploring breathtaking landscapes and centuries of history, and witnessing stories of tragedy, resilience, and hope. I returned with unforgettable memories, a full heart, and a deeper appreciation for the strength, kindness, and beauty of humanity.

A whirlwind tour through a beautiful and under-appreciated/misunderstood part of the world; I can’t believe it was only two weeks given how much we got to do and see! Our tour leader Dina was incredible, the places we went to were amazing, and I can’t recommend this trip highly enough.

A fantastic trip with a broad coverage of the history, geography and religious history of the area. The schedule has several free days which means that you can follow your own interests and you aren’t changing hotels constantly.
