Trip Informations
Embark on a South American adventure from Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro on this 14-day trip. Soak up the might of Argentina before crossing to the charming city of Colonia del Sacramento, then explore the lively Mercado del Puerto in Montevideo. Spend two nights getting to know the locals on an estancia (farm) in Uruguay, where you can go horse riding and relax in the sun, then witness the ferocity of Iguazu Falls. Top it all off with beachy Ilha Grande and buzzing Rio de Janeiro – all with a local and a group of potential new friends by your side.
Why you’ll love this trip
Spend two nights at an estancia (farm) in Uruguay, where you can get involved in farm work, learn about gauchos, ride horses or simply relax in the sun.
Cross the border from Brazil to Argentina to see the mighty Iguazu Falls from both sides.
Soak up the sights of Buenos Aires – explore the historic city centre, sample Argentinian barbecue and watch the city turn into a nightlife hotspot.
Choose your own adventure at Ilha Grande with a full day on the island. If hiking, boating, kayaking or lazing on a beach is your thing, you’ll be well and truly covered.
Finish off your travels under the bright lights of Rio de Janeiro – a unique combination of city, beach and mountains famed for its party scene and rhythmic music.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip involves some long travel days, including an overnight bus. This is a great opportunity to get to know your group and really enjoy the journey (while you wait for the stunning destinations). The buses are well equipped with comfortable reclining seats and onboard toilets. We recommend you bring your own snacks in case you get hungry.
While at the estancia in Uruguay, you can choose to participate in the day-to-day activities of the farm as much or as little as you like. The accommodation is multishare and meals are served family style. Please inform your booking agent if you have any dietary requirements.
As this trip only has limited time in Rio, we highly recommend staying a few extra days after your trip to enjoy all this great city has to offer.
This trip is part of a longer itinerary. You might be joining travellers who have already spent some time together. If you have more time to explore, you might like to check out Epic South America (GGYPC) or Real Bolivia to Brazil (GGYRC).

If you’re nervous about visiting brasil, intrepid is the way to go. Everything was so organised and quick. Guilherme was an incredible guide, so approachable with a good sense of humor. He was always there to help in any case and equally as available for a good laugh and ready to give the best food recommendations.

An excellent introductory trip for exploring buenos aires, uraguay and brazil in a safe manner. I would recommend adding a 3 days at either end of your trip for exploring rio and buenos aires

Amazing trip with Iguazu Falls, wildlife, and great food. Ranch stay was enjoyable, but one night is enough - full day felt long. Would have preferred an extra day in Paraty or São Paulo city tour. Well-organized overall, with a fantastic guide (Felipe!) and memorable experiences throughout.

I would absolutely book with Intrepid again for several reasons: the value of having a knowledgeable native speaker, the excellent value for money (I believe I had a far more enriching experience than I could have achieved on my own), and Intrepid’s strong ethos and commitment to inclusivity and environmental responsibility.
