Trip Informations
Take Sri Lanka, boil it like the tea leaves the country’s famous for and strain out all the best stuff. On this 11-day trip, you’ll travel through natural paradise, small, friendly villages and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Search for elephants in Udawalawe National Park and walk to the top of Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress. Feast on spicy curry prepared by a local in Ella and hike through lush mountains. Relax on the beach in Hiriketiya – perfect for lounging and sipping cocktails – and do it all with a new group of friends!
Why you’ll love this trip
Cruise around in a 4WD on a wildlife safari, searching for elephants, leopards and aquatic birdlife in Udawalawe National Park.
Wash down a spicy, home-cooked curry with a cup of Ceylon tea when you’re welcomed into a local home for lunch in a lush mountain village near Ella.
Kick back on the warm sands of palm-lined Hiriketiya, with plenty of free time to relax and soak up the sun at the beach.
Hike one of the most popular sections of the Pekoe Trail – a trekking route that runs through tea plantations, the Ella Forest Reserve and past the famous Nine Arch Bridge.
Walk to the top of the Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress. Explore the ruined fortress on the top of the rock, learn about the region’s history and see the Lion’s Gate – a staircase with two huge stone lion paws on either side.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip puts the power in your hands – there’s tonnes of free time for optional activities, so you’ll have plenty of freedom to decide what you want to do.
The journey from Ella to Udawalawe takes a winding road down the mountains to the coast, which means the drive can feel a little slow. But don't worry, it also means that you’ll get to see the awesome scenery from literally every angle.
Some temples on this trip require your head to be uncovered when visiting. You can opt out of temple visits if this requirement doesn't suit you.

I have not met a more knowledgeable, selfless man in my life like our leader, Chaly. His presentation both physically and as a tour leader is great. He was happy to answer any question, and had an in depth answer for everything. His English is good and he does his best to interpret everyone to the best of his abilities. I would always recommend Chaly to anyone who needs an Intrepid tour. I would definitely ask for him again. The tour was extensive in detail from food to geography to wildlife and religion. I would recommend anyone to take this tour.

I highly recommend this tour to Sri Lanka! I loved every moment. The tour guide Tharu was one of the best humans I’ve met. I am so glad I had a local show me around their home and introduce us to their culture. I had such a great experience and will book with intrepid again!
