Trip Informations
Uncover the flavours of Galicia and Portugal on this eight-day adventure full of culinary delights, local wines and European hotspots. Take a tour of the central markets of Santiago de Compostela and enjoy a francesinha dinner in Porto. Discover how centuries of invasion and trade have given Portuguese cuisine a mixture of Mediterranean, African and Middle Eastern influences. Sip port and local wines among the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley and roll up your sleeves for a cooking class at an Alentejo farm stay. Explore coastal Lisbon, rubbing shoulders with locals at a canned fish hotspot and tuck into a glass (or two) of ginjinha (wild cherry liqueur) and the famed Portuguese tarts.

The cuisine of Portugal includes a lot of meat and seafood. For vegetarians and vegans, we recommend reviewing the itinerary and inclusions to ensure that you can fully participate and enjoy this trip. We also have many other trips to Portugal that can accommodate various dietary requirements.
verified
Summer temperatures in the areas visited can be very high (up to 40C), which can be uncomfortable. It is essential to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability for that season.
verified
We recommend packing light and smart for this trip as you'll be required to carry your own luggage between train stations and hotels, which can include going up and down multiple flights of stairs, and across cobblestones. Train stations often don’t have lifts available.

Space is at a premium in Europe and your hotel is no exception. Rooms are often small, but usually the central location makes up for that. For those travelling as a duo, hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together.

This was a wonderfully well organised trip with an exceptionally good group leader (Monica). The mini bus driver Armando was really good, a safe driver, helpful with loading and unloading cases. Both Monica & Armando went above and beyond. Monica the group leader had wonderful communication skills and was very knowledgeable about the area, with lots of hints & tips. Daily communication on WhatsApp was super.
I loved the visit to the winery, dining outside overlooking the vineyards was amazing, great food, delicious wine and a location that was beautiful. Also the winery tour was far more interesting than previous tours of this nature. The walking tour in Porto was fabulous. Overall, a most enjoyable holiday and a great way to see and experience Portugal.

This is a food tour so we have experienced a wide range of foods. Some I will never eat again (think a multi layered meat sandwich called a francesinha) and others I could eat all day (pasteis de belem).
Our tour leader Maria was fantastic. A terrific ambassador for her country, and for Intrepid.
Thanks heaps, Maria. We had a ball.

Our fantastic tour leader, Maria, made our trip so much more than just a tourist excursion. Whilst the itinerary was well paced and interesting, Maria’s passion for her country, and her genuine interest in the people in the group, will be memories we will treasure for life.

A really enjoyable trip that was led by an excellent guide. Although it was relatively short (7 days) we got a great appreciation of Portuguese culture and cuisine. Highly recommended.

Portugal is a magical place and Intrepid tours always allow you (in a small group) to learn about your destination while giving you enough free time to explore on your own. Our leader was marvelous - very enthusiastic and knowledgeable - and we enjoyed getting to know our fellow travelers.
