On Short Break Adventures, you maintain a good level of independence and freedom, with the added bonus of having the details sorted out for you. You’ll have lots of free time and you won’t be accompanied by a trip leader. This means that all included activities and tours will be run by different local Tuuur partners, and these may operate independently from each other. The included activities and transfers will operate on a join-in basis, which means that you could have your adventure all to yourself, or others may join you along the way. If you'd prefer to travel in a group with a dedicated leader, just get in touch with your booking agent and they will take you through some alternatives.

This itinerary starts in Johannesburg and includes 2 long travel days to and from Greater Kruger National Park.
verified
Your lodge in the Greater Kruger Park ecosystem is about a 50 minute drive to Kruger National Park’s Orpen Gate. On this trip, you'll have Game Drives in both the Kruger National Park and neighbouring Private Game Reserves.
verified
The transport to and from Kruger National Park will be in a 13-seater minivan. This is a shuttle service that departs daily. You may be sharing this shuttle ride with other travellers booked on different trips and itineraries to you.
verified
As the early bird catches the worm, the early camper sights the animals. There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.

Regardless of where you stay, power cuts and breaks in hot water are sometimes unavoidable, as in any developing country. In particular, South Africa suffers from load-shedding: rolling blackouts that are engineered specifically to share out available power in the region.
Itinerary
Explore the wild plains of Kruger National Park and the cosmopolitan streets of rugged Cape Town
Enjoy an incredible African adventure on this journey from Kruger National Park to Cape Town. Feel the thrill of spotting one (or more) of Africa’s Big Five for the first time on a game drive safari, hear the trumpet of elephants across the plains and learn about the park’s unique ecosystem on a guided walk. Travel to bustling Joburg – a juxtaposing city of mansions and shantytowns – before travelling to the chic streets of Cape Town to learn about the city’s dramatic past. Immerse yourself in the culture, beauty and history of this astonishing region and sample a few glasses on regional wine along the way.

This is a good way of seeing some of the key places in South Africa in a short time. Kruger was amazing and the Lodge accommodation is excellent. The hotel in Cape Town were beyond expectations as it was very nice. The tours are also very well managed and you do get to see a lot of the sites.

This was a great trip! Intrepid chose wonderful hotels and locations which made me feel really comfortable in each city. Our safari lodge & game drives with our guide, Harrison, were certainly the highlight - an amazing experience! For some reason, we didn't get to go on the 3 hour walking tour of Cape Town, which I would have enjoyed. Otherwise, a fun itinerary & great execution!

Overall, recommend the destinations and activities (game drives, Canyon boat tour, Cape Town tours). But I'd recommend booking directly with hotels and tour guides and take out Intrepid - the non-responsive middleman. With 4 free days and 2 travel days on an 11-day trip, didn't get much value from using Intrepid vs. if I planned/booked things myself. Was extremely disappointed with lack of info, ie. which Kruger hotel we'd stay at, time of transports, Joburg to Cape Town flight info, etc. Didn't get a detailed itinerary with times until AFTER the trip started and I had made numerous requests. Game drives were great, but went to Satara rest stop three times in two days, would be nice to see a different area of Kruger Park. Day 4 Panorama route was not an option, but the Blyde Canyon boat tour was great! On Day 5 drive we did stop at Three Rondavels View Point. In Cape Town, had a 1-hour driving tour of the city, but not a 3-hour walking tour.
