Trip Informations
There’s no doubt that Jordan’s ancient wonders and desert landscapes are absolutely remarkable, but any local will tell you one of the country’s greatest pleasures is its food – so pull up a chair, share dishes and make memories on this 6-day adventure for food lovers. Discover Jordan’s diverse heritage at tables across the country, float in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea, zip through Wadi Rum on a jeep safari, and uncover the majesty of Petra. Be welcomed into local homes for dinner, have breakfast with a shepherd, learn cherished family recipes during a cooking class, and dine with a Bedouin community in the desert.
Why you’ll love this trip
Let three sisters share their grandmother’s traditional recipes with you during a hands-on cooking class in Amman. Learn how to make a tasty maqluba, one of Jordan’s most beloved dishes.
Learn about life in Petra when you sit down with a local family for a hearty serving of mansaf, delicious lamb with fermented, dried yoghurt sauce.
Uncover ancient traditions and flavours with a Jordanian shepherd over a typical mezze breakfast, a chance to learn about life in the countryside.
Marvel at the majesty of Petra on a guided tour, speed through the desert on a jeep safari in Wadi Rum and float in the salty waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth.
Get to know Jordanian food, beyond hummus. This adventure introduces you to authentic dishes like falafel, mansaf, maqluba, knafeh, labneh, kibbeh, khubz and zarb.
Is this trip right for you?
Jordan is a great food destination for vegetarians. With wonderful fresh produce and many delicious local dishes, you'll have a great time on this trip. For vegans we recommend reviewing the itinerary and inclusions to ensure that you will be able to fully participate and enjoy this trip. We also have many other trips to Jordan which can accommodate a range of dietary requirements.
Some of the best scenery in Petra and Wadi Rum is found on hikes. While this trip doesn't require a high level of fitness, it’s essential to be at least moderately fit if you want to participate in all activities.
At most of the historical sites in Jordan there is no shade. Bring a hat, sun protection, and sturdy, comfortable walking shoes. Winters can get quite cool, so if you're visiting at this time, don't forget to pack some warmer layers too.
The desert camp in Wadi Rum is basic, but incredibly memorable. There are tents and shared western bathroom facilities. While the desert may be very hot during the day, it will still be cold at night and warm clothes are highly recommended when travelling outside of the summer months.
Ramadan is an annual month-long festival, during which travel can be a rewarding cultural experience, however some regular services may not be available during the day, such as restaurants or cafes, and occasionally travel can be disrupted by events. Your leader will adjust the itinerary accordingly, but please consider this when selecting your travel dates. You'll find dates and further information in the 'Climate and seasonal information' section of the Essential Trip Information.

This tour is an excellent introduction to Jordan and its food, with plenty of time to explore Petra, Wadi Rum and float around in the Dead Sea. The food was diverse from rustic Bedouin breakfast out at a camp, streetside shawarma cooked over charcoal, knafeh from Amman's most popular hole-in-the-wall, maqluba, home-cooked mansaf, and daily hits of local coffee with cardamom. Our leader Mohammad was amazing with a deep knowledge of Jordan's (and the Middle East's) history and culture.

Jordan Real Food Adventure was a short yet amazing, fun packed trip. The focus on food and experience was throughout and a special shout out to our leader Muhammad. This trip had equal measure of activities and 'on your own' time.

An excellent short trip for an overview of Jordanian culture & cuisine. Muhammad was an awesome guide. I especially loved the opportunity to eat with locals in their home & breakfast with a shepherd. The Wadi Rum camp and the night sky was a highlight. Highly recommended.

Had a great time on this trip! Packed itinerary, but still had enough time to enjoy each of the places visited. An unexpected highlight was breakfast with the shepherds, but there were just so many highlights. So grateful to our group leader and the community members for their hospitality and providing us with incredible experiences. Amazing sights, lovely people, and delicious food awaits you in Jordan! I’m definitely hoping to visit again someday!

This was a great cultural experience. We done a lot in such a short space of time but I think the major foodies would be disappointed in the standard of food and coffee. Don't expect to enjoy any wine with your food on this trip either!
