Trip Informations
Discover the rich artistic heritage, natural attractions and acclaimed cuisines of Croatia, Slovenia and Italy on this ten-day trip from Dubrovnik to Venice. Soak up Split’s stunning ocean views, see Dubrovnik's renowned walled city and wander through the pristine natural beauty of Plitvice Lakes National Park – a must-see UNESCO World Heritage Site. Get acquainted with Croatia’s capital Zagreb, explore Ljubljana’s Old Town and be romanced and entranced by Venice, where you end it all (or extend your adventures). Take in both acclaimed landmarks and lesser-known attractions with a trip that covers all the nature-loving bases in some of the Mediterranean’s hottest locations.
Why you’ll love this trip
Unwind in seaside Split – a haven of relaxation and culture – and walk along the waterfront promenade to admire the impressive Diocletian's Palace before feasting on seafood.
Stroll through Plitvice Lakes National Park – a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site – marvelling at luminous lakes and azure waterfalls that look like they’ve been sketched by an artist.
Feast on Mediterranean fresh seafood, Italian-influenced antipasti and the crunchy, doughy dessert of fritule in the culinary capital of Croatia – Zagreb. Then if you like, explore the touching Museum of Broken Relationships.
Explore the streets, medieval buildings and restored castle of Ljubljana’s charming Old Town on foot. Your local leader will know all the hotspots, plus the best cafes for a coffee break.
Journey to romantic Venice – like no other city in the world. Fall in love with its labyrinth of alleyways, canals, lagoon islands, and endless historic attractions and hop on a gondola if you want to explore the city from a different perspective.
By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Tuuur Foundation partner, Humana Zagreb. Donations help provide job opportunities and education programs in sustainable fashion and textiles for people with disabilities.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip is made for travellers who value their independence but also want the benefit of a local leader and a group of like-minded travellers. The itinerary has a mix of included activities and free time when your leader will offer suggestions. Please budget spending money for optional activities you want to partake in.
As accommodation on this trip is twin-share, single travellers will share a room with another traveller of the same gender. This trip is a great opportunity to get to know other like-minded people, so embrace it while you can. Keep in mind that hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together/apart. Rooms can be rather small, especially compared to American or Australian standards, and in most cases, bathroom facilities will be shared rather than ensuite. A single supplement is not available on this trip.
Summer temperatures can be very high in many regions visited (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s essential to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Many European hotel rooms are not equipped with air-conditioning. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability for that season.

This is an excellent trip for a first-time Intrepid adventurer like me! It has a blend of historical cities, great food, days spent in nature and a range of cultures. Our guide Dušan was fantastic. Split and Lake Bled were highlights for me!

An amazing trip! We got to see so much and really experience the local culture. I love how local experiences were prioritized. Highlights were definitely walking the walls in Dubrovnik, all the good local food, Plitvice Lake, the train ride into Ljublijana, and Lake Bled. The perfect amount of group outings and time to freestyle. Accommodations were basic, but clean and safe. Transportation between locations was comfortable. Our guide, Nina, was excellent and took really good care of the group. She offered suggestions for each location and often arranged group dinners for us at local restaurants.

The trip had an interesting itinerary - every town we visited was fascinating in its own way. Plitvice Lakes and Lake Bled were gorgeous. Our group leader Sando had amazing knowledge of all our destinations and helped to develop a positive group dynamic.

This was a brilliant trip to a beautiful part of the world. The highlight for me was Lake Bled in Slovenia - absolutely stunning. As Slovenia was high on my wish list, it would be nice if Intrepid could find a way for the group to leave earlier in the morning on the travel day from Zagreb to Ljubljana, even if that meant taking a bus not a train. While Lucija helped us organise our time in the afternoon in Ljubljana and our day at Lake Bled, I’d already done everything I wanted to in Zagreb and would have liked more time in Ljubljana. Every other part of the itinerary was great. Although wet on the day we went, Plitvice Lakes were beautiful. What made this trip even better was having the lovely Lucija as our leader! Definitely recommend this trip.

I booked this trip last minute without expectations and I was nervous about accommodations. I ended up being very happy and satisfied. With exception of one accommodation being externally small space, everything else was great.

This trip was really made special by our wonderful tour leader, Dijana, who arranged my most memorable birthday party to date! Overall this is a great itinerary, just consider adding a day before and after for enough time in Dubrovnik and Venice. Ljubljana and Bled were highlights along with the Plitvice Lakes. Hotels were basic but clean and local transport always comes with challenges like the air con not working - go with the flow and be ready for things beyond your control and you will be happy!

This trip was the perfect 'Basics' dive into the Balkan region. It was the perfect taste of Aegean Sea experience as well as the beautiful interior mountain towns you see in central Europe. There weren't alot of included activities which was expected and it allowed us to have tons of free time to do what we wanted. Highly recommended if you want to do more of your own exploring.

My experience with intrepid was nothing short of fantastic. Dijana was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour leader and worked very hard to ensure we each had a positive experience travelling. I would absolutely travel with intrepid again next time. The ease of having everything organised, making friends in your travels and learning about the cities through knowledgeable local guides was very exciting.
